Bank account (cuenta bancaria)
Bank account is a noun.
“I have a bank account.”
You always open and close bank accounts. You do not make or do bank accounts.
“I want to open a bank account.”
“I want to close my bank account.”
Credit card (tarjeta de crédito)
Credit card is a noun.
“I have a credit card.”
You always apply for a credit card. You do not open, make or do credit cards.
“I want to apply for a credit card.”
You always cancel a credit card. You do not close credit cards.
“I want to cancel my credit card.”
When you use a credit card to buy something you pay by credit card.
“I want to pay by credit card.”
“May I pay by credit card?”
You can use “with a” instead of “by”.
“May I pay with a credit card?”
Mortgage (hipoteca)
Mortgage is a noun.
You always take out a mortgage. You never open, make, do or close a mortgage.
“I would like to take out a mortgage.”
Teller (cajero/a)
Teller is a noun.
A teller in a bank is always a person. A teller only works in a bank. A teller does not work in supermarkets, stores or shops.
“My friend John is a teller. He works at Barclays Bank.”
Cheque book (talonario)
Cheque book is a noun.
When you use a cheque book, you always write cheques.
“I have no cash. May I write a cheque?”
When you use a cheque book, you always pay by cheque.
“I have no cash. May I pay by cheque?”
Deposit (ingreso e ingresar)
Deposit is a noun and a verb; «to deposit» and «a deposit».
When used as a noun it is used with the verb “to make”.
“I want to make a deposit.”
“Have you made a deposit to John’s bank account?”
When used as a verb, it conjugates as a regular verb.
“I deposit money in my account every week.”
“I deposited money in my account last week.”
Withdrawal (sacar)
Withdrawal is a noun.
It is used with the verb “to make”.
“I want to make a withdrawal.”
“Have you made a withdrawal?”
Bank statement (extracto)
Bank statement is a noun.
“I received my bank statement yesterday.”
Branch (sucursal)
Branch is a noun.
“Where is your bank’s branch?”
“My bank’s branch is in Albert Street.”
Cash machine (cajero automático)
Cash machine is a noun.
“Is there a cash machine nearby?”
“Dave made a withdrawal from the cash machine.”
